We are headed full steam into summertime. For some it’s a break but for others it can be daunting. Without the consistency of the school year, this season can be the busiest. There are more schedules to juggle, babysitting challenges, family visits, vacation planning and summer camps.
On top of all that you have to do for your family, you still have to show up energized, powerful and ready to put in a full day’s work at the office. So how do you get through the summer with your sanity? Guess what? It begins with you.
Before you’re smack dab in the middle of the season, I encourage you to pause, reflect and envision what you want this summer.
Pause. Simply taking a breather and taking time out to think about what you might want to experience is probably a welcome break for you. Your attention is directed to the present moment, where creativity begins.
Reflect. What was last summer like for you? Was it the best ever—one for the family album? Maybe it was pretty much a blur with 1 or 2 moments of joy? Let’s take a moment to reflect. Ask yourself:
- What went right?
- What went wrong?
- What did you do too much of?
- What didn’t you do enough of?
- Most importantly, what did you learn? If we’re not learning and growing from our experiences, we end up repeating the same mistakes.
Envision. Whatever your past experiences, this summer is an opportunity to design something new for your family and you. There’s a saying that goes, “Every day is a fresh start”. Well, so is every summer. It’s time to jump start your imagination and get on with the designing. Ask yourself:
- What do you want to experience more of this summer?
- How will you incorporate more ‘me time’ and take care of you?
- What steps do you need to take now?
Instead of looking at this summer’s activities as just more to pile on your plate and more to stress about, take a timeout. Pause. Reflect. Envision. Explore from within what you want to experience in your outer life.
