Do you ever say to yourself, “Gosh I sound like my mother?” The older I get the more I hear myself saying this. One thing that’s coming up a lot with my 15 and 12 year old is their continuous focus on what the other is or isn’t doing. Something I remember doing as a child. I remember hunting down my mother and telling her all the things my brother and sister weren’t doing. To my surprise (every time) she’d snap back with, “Stop worrying about what everybody else is doing. Mind your own business.” This would infuriate me. Didn’t she see they were playing instead of loading the dishwasher and vacuuming? Didn’t she hear their laughter and jokes? I spent a lot of energy and years hunting down my mom, giving her the status and then stewing over what I thought my siblings were “getting away with”.
“Energy flows where attention goes.” –Michael Bernard Beckwith
There’s a spiritual principle, a universal law of life that is, “Energy flows where attention goes”. A simple example of this principle would be when you’re in the market for a new car and you’re specific about the car you want. Seemingly out of the blue you notice the car popping up during your commute, in magazine and TV ads and in parking lots. You say, “Wow, I keep seeing my car!” Another example is, let’s say you want to be a more grateful and positive woman. Well, like magic you’ll notice many things throughout your day to be grateful for. Likewise, if you wake up every morning saying, “God I hate my job and the people I work with”, you’ll see multiple reasons throughout your day to hate your job and the people you work with. Energy flows where attention goes.
Is it time to mind your own business and take your power back? What becomes possible if you were to give your full attention to the positive impact you want to make in the world, the unique value and blessings you bring to those in your personal and professional life? This is your business sister—to express your unique brilliance in the world! No one else can do this but you. Everyone else is taken.
So this week, instead of worrying about what everyone else is or isn’t doing, take your power back by consciously directing life’s creative energy, toward creating what you desire at home and in your work.
