What do you REALLY want in 2018?

Here is what women tell me they want: Learn to be a better professional by opening up and fearing less. Happy life with my kids, healthy loving relationship with a man. My career is personally, financially and professionally fulfilling. Time to enjoy my family and get projects done around the house. Reading books by the ocean in my house with no rent or mortgage payments. I would live a deliberate life making proactive decisions instead of reactive. Being valued as a creative soul and having the ability to express that. I want a meaningful lifestyle that satisfies who I am as a person. Peace and harmony at home. Every member thriving and achieving great things. Legacy – leave one! That matters and that is bigger than me. I am in absolute control of my own time. Work from anywhere I want to be and setting my own schedule. Wake up refreshed, meditate, move through the […]

Want the answer to your guilt, anger and frustrations…it’s not what you think

Have you ever had someone say to you, “You’re too sensitive”, “I don’t know what you’re so angry about!”, or my favorite, “Women are just too emotional”? Have you ever felt guilty because you didn’t follow through on a promise, commitment or something you felt you should have?  If any of the above resonates with you, as either the giver or the receiver of the comment, you’re not alone. Actually, you’re like 7 billion+ others on the planet. You’re human.  Which leads me to this 2-part annoucement: 1)  I just had a dynamic and informative conversation with an Emotional Intelligence expert, Joie Seldon, M.A.. What No One Tells You About Courageous Women

How courageous would you say you are in your personal and professional life? When it’s your time to shine, do you speak your truth, take bold action? Do you typically take a big step forward, or do you shrink backward? My fairy grandmother Maya Angelou said, “Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can’t practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage.” In my latest FB Live video, I give you a peek under the skirts of courageous women. And 3 things about them that’ll surprise you…and that you’ll want to begin adopting immediately! Are Your Actions Leading Towards Or Away From Happiness, Sanity And Success?

“Vision without action is just a dream, action without vision just passes the time, and vision with action can change the world.” —Nelson Mandela Do you have a dream or vision for an area of your life? What types of actions are you taking to support the manifestation of it? You see, a vision without action is simply entertainment. When it comes to personal and professional transformation the outer work is just as important as the inner work.    A vision will inspire you while your actions move you toward it. But not all action is good action. Some will lead you astray while others are a straight shot in the direction of happiness, fulfillment and success. Watch my latest video to hear what the 5 types of actions are and which ones you’ll want to start taking.     To being Clear, Balanced, and Purposeful in every area of your life, ~Akanke Follow Akanke on Twitter, @Akanke_Adefunmi, […]

Why Professional Women Need To Brag More

“You’ve been criticizing yourself for years, and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens” – Louise Hay When was the last time you gave yourself full-on credit for an accomplishment? I mean really, when have you truly acknowledged where you started and what you created, voiced, or manifested in your life? For a lot of women self-acknowledgement and self-appreciation can be a hard thing to do. It can feel like bragging. And with the negative connotations many have attached to bragging, it’s no wonder why so many women find it difficult to do. I happen to believe that bragging, from a place of self-love, self-appreciation and acknowledgement is a very, very good thing. When you take time to appreciate yourself it’s like you’re stepping off the moving train that’s your life, looking around and honoring your spirit, acknowledging that you’re hear for a purpose and appreciating the path (rough and smooth) that’s lead you to where […]

Are You Ready To Take Your Power Back?

Do you ever say to yourself, “Gosh I sound like my mother?” The older I get the more I hear myself saying this. One thing that’s coming up a lot with my 15 and 12 year old is their continuous focus on what the other is or isn’t doing. Something I remember doing as a child. I remember hunting down my mother and telling her all the things my brother and sister weren’t doing. To my surprise (every time) she’d snap back with, “Stop worrying about what everybody else is doing. Mind your own business.” This would infuriate me. Didn’t she see they were playing instead of loading the dishwasher and vacuuming? Didn’t she hear their laughter and jokes? I spent a lot of energy and years hunting down my mom, giving her the status and then stewing over what I thought my siblings were “getting away with”. “Energy flows where attention goes.” –Michael Bernard […]
